About Yesterday

I got tired of combing my strong hair, so, I went to the salon to get anything done on my hair. When I arrived, I saw four ladies in the shop, the shop owner, her assistant and two ladies.

No sooner had I gotten my hair washed when a very good friend to the shop owner came in, walking so upright and stiff, she could barely move her legs, I was like, what kinda medical condition is this one (I didn't say it out loud o, biko), But we just watched her in awe and wonderment (I didn't even know this word existed) as she struggled to climb the steps leading to the salon.

She came in, greeted us and we mumbled greetings in return, observing her cautiously nonetheless (ladies, u know how we do it).

Okay, my hair was finally clean or something like that(I practically begged the girl to stop washing, she was washing my hair like she was trying to get stains off a khaki material), we both went inside the salon to get my hair dried. Suddenly, the upright and stiff woman got up all of a sudden as if she had been slapped by an invisible force, pulled off her blouse with one hand, and lo and behold, the largest waist trainer I have ever seen was strapped around her tummy (okay, maybe m exaggerating) buh it was large. She exhaled loudly and exclaimed 'Nso ke mbi di kpa nnor ubob idip?'(Why will I die in an effort to tie my tummy). The ladies in the salon laughed but I and the shop owner did not find it funny(actually I didn't want to laugh, u know, laughing at an adult and all), the shop owner just looked at her friend and started; 'In the olden days(I saw that coming), women who had big tummy were seen as being beautiful because they were the ones who wore the most fitting outfits.

Their tummy enabled their skirts to sit properly on their waist and slim ladies always envied them (seriously?, it had to b slim ladies?), but now, this generation has turned everything upside down. Ladies are subjecting themselves to pain just because their men want flat tummy'. As if on cue, they turned to look at me, I didn't wait for them to start attacking me, I just started explaining that I'm slim hence I don't v much fatty deposits therefore my tummy is flat, please. They seemed satisfied with that answer.

But this got me thinking, ladies, we need to be comfortable in our own skin. Nobody can make you feel inferior except yourself. Whether u have a big tummy or a flat tummy, put on outfits that flatter your figure and make you feel good about yourself. If you're using a waist trainer, let it be because YOU want to look good, not because one man is pushing you to start walking upright and stiff just so u can be his barbie.
And the men, stop judging a ladies appearance based on that of another lady, we are different, every lady is beautiful (if u don't believe me, take 6 bottles of beer and have a second glance), but seriously though, every lady is beautiful. I've seen plenty guys with serious pot belly, have we ladies told u to go buy waist trainer? (in fact, go and buy waist trainer).

Learn to Love and accept yourself the way you are.
We shouldn't try to hurt ourselves just to conform to a particular way of life.
